Before coming to the learnings of the first class of the internship program Batch 2, let me introduce myself to my mentor, supervisors as well as my batchmates.
I’m Abhishek Kumar Jha, a beginner in DM and Web designing from the last 2 years. Now you must be wondering how I’m a beginner even after being in this field for 2 years. This is all because of the mistakes that I did – being in the comfort zone and expecting things to change.
I was too much of a perfectionist to do something perfectly rather than do it then and there with flaws and improve gradually. I kept procrastinating about starting a blog, publishing my first and what not; I failed but most importantly I realized everything and learned to rectify my mistakes.
The First Class
So, the first class of the internship program has been really fantastic. It has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and complete the first assignment within the deadline. As it is with the human psyche that we tend to perform better when put under pressure and bound by a deadline. This class also helped me realize having a goal defined is half the battle won.
Have Your Goals Defined
Before enrolling in this internship I wanted to become everything- blogger, Digital Marketer, YouTuber, affiliate marketer and what not. I soon realized that having clear goals is what leads you to success and the 1st class has helped me do that.
You cannot be a blogger, YouTuber, consultant- you technically can, but should have clear goals defined regarding whatever your area of work is. You should start with one of the areas, master it and then foray into another field as per your progress and expertise.
I was not always interested in economics and this class helped me understand the basics which are essential for wealth creation and as a young entrepreneur.
I also got to know that you should not worry about ‘Recession’ if you’re confident about yourself or your company’s strength. People always pay for value
Communication is a key basic skill
In this class, I learned that communication is one of the basic and most important skills one should master as a marketer as you can convey whatever you’re trying to speak to your target audience. In fact, it is not only important for business but also to stand out in the real world.
For example- there were many well-qualified professors in my university but the most favorite of all was the one who had great communication skill and he taught concepts in the most amazing and simplistic ways.
The best way to learn something is by doing and the best way of doing something is coming out of the comfort zone.
How to Improve Communication Skills?
To improve any skill, you have to first learn the skill, practice it every day, keep finding your flaws, rectify them and keep improving. Here are some of the actionable steps you can take every day to improve your communication skills.
- Read books every day for 15-30 minutes or as much time you can devote. The book can be a novel, story or research work. I prefer paperback books over ebooks.
- Watch English news for 15-30 minutes every day.
- Listen to industry podcasts and your favorite leaders.
- Write every day; whether it is the excerpt of the video you just watched or the dream you had last night or your thoughts for the day.
- Watch English shows such as silicon valley, The office, The Big Bang Theory.
- Watch standup comedy shows to know about the latest trends.
- Speak for 5 minutes every day in your own accent in a private space.
Future Of Digital Marketing
I had been part of a discussion thread on ‘The future of Digital Marketing’ around a year back on Facebook. Most people were of the view that DM has a very dark future and AI will take over and automate everything. But, I have a different take on this.
DM won’t die, although there will be small changes and updates eventually. Marketing has stayed for generations and it will be there in the times to come, and so is DM.
Digital Marketing has only simplified marketing and it will continue to do so for the marketers in the future. You can automate everything, but how will you automate this piece of content that I have written for my mentor, Deepak Kanakaraju and my internship colleagues.
So, do not fear as to the future of DM, simply focus on improving your skills and make your personal brand stronger over time.
Integrated Digital Marketing
DM is a vast field and professionals choose their respective areas and keep working in it but each of these areas of Dm has its unique advantages. If you’re a DM agency, you cannot leave leads on the desk by not applying integrated Digital Marketing.
Integrated Digital Marketing is a practice of bringing together the efforts of all your marketing teams and utilize them in such a way that they complement each other and bring out the best results overall.
You are leaving Leads on the desk if you are not applying integrated Digital Marketing.
The Riches are in the Niches
As they say ‘The Riches are in the Niches’ which is a deep truth. When you go to college, you enroll in a particular course and study several subjects prescribed under it; you do not go and randomly sit in any class to gain knowledge. The same is the case with DM or blogging or YouTubing.
You have to select a ‘niche’ or a topic in a layman’s language. You have to find something you’re interested or passionate about- say gardening, bike cleaning, home decor, personal grooming, et al.
Then you should start creating content as per your niche, study, experiment and then move forward. When you look at the most successful bloggers or YouTubers, you’ll notice that they post content about a particular topic and have been consistent and that is how they found success.
A simple example to stick with a niche is that you wouldn’t like a movie review site to give you tips on how to repair your pc or tips on personal grooming.
Find Market Demand
As with every business, you have to find market demand for your products and services to sell and your business to succeed and the same is with DM. You have to find market demand for the service you’re providing or the product you’re selling.
2. Look around you, meet business owners, ask them their pain points, know their and craft your services according to the demand.

4. Meet new people.
Personal branding is important
Personal branding is very important today especially if you’re in the service business or running an agency. Personal branding is all about standing out and not fearing to be judged.
- Show your personality and lifestyle on social media.
- Publish content on different channels, take feedback, improve and publish more content and stand out.
Personal branding has lots of benefits once you understand its importance.
- You get known by more and more people every day and get fame.
- You can get very good clients which can simply put you ahead of the competition or you can get a good job.
- You get fame and known by a lot of people.
- One benefit I think is that it helps you improve every day as you have a lot of responsibility to keep up to the expectation of your followers every day.
- Keep improving keep inspiring, keep getting wealthier.
So, the 1st class of 2nd batch of the internship program has been really inspiring and motivating. Apart from learning several marketing fundamentals, I got out of my comfort zone to write this article.
Although I haven’t come out of my Comfort zone fully, I’m damn sure I’ll be out of it by the end of this program.
